Abstract
The lipid content and composition of the raffish has been determined. The o‐trisubstituted glycerols proved to be similar in composition to those of the Pacific species, Hydrolagus colliei (Lay & Bennett), containing, however, a larger proportion of polyunsaturated acids. The phospholipids were more saturated than is normally the case with marine lipids. The reported toxicity has also been examined in view of the possibility that substantial quantities of ratfish may be present in some catches for fishmeal. The fish was found to be non‐toxic after varying periods of iced storage, the flesh being pleasant to eat. The trimethyhmine oxide, protein and free amino acid content and composition are also given. Keywords
