Abstract
A qualitative and quantitative investigation of the periodicity of fresh water algae in a small subalpine lake in N. Z. was made, with a consideration of temp., pH, and O2 content; the results showed that the spp. could be grouped according to whether they were dominant, constant or rare. A Sedgwick-Rafter counting cell was used in the quantitative analysis; the algae developed in approx. the same sequences as in oligotrophic lakes in the northern hemisphere when Asterionella gracillima, Dinobryon sertularia, Kirchneriella lunaris, and Botryococcus braunii are at some time the most abundant algae. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
