To the Editor: The association between limb compression and the crush syndrome as a complication of narcotic overdose (N Engl J Med 284:368–369, 1971) brought to mind a similar problem recently seen at the Boston City Hospital that was caused by a much more frequently used Central-nervous-system depressant: ethyl alcohol.On December 6, 1968, after having consumed "two or three sixpacks of beer," a 21-year-old single man went home and quarreled with his mother.
