Abstract
The Sannoisian (upper Oligocene), exposed only in its upper part at the type section, Sannois, France, is described from paleontologic and lithologic studies at Argenteuil and Cormeilles. Foraminifera and ostracods, less common in the Romainville green shale than in the Sannois limestone, along with previously studied mollusks, indicate that the fauna of the Argenteuil blue marls and the Pantin white marls exhibit an affinity with upper Eocene faunas, whereas the Romainville green shale and the Sannois limestone cannot be distinguished paleontologically from the Stampian. It is concluded from this that the Sannoisian should be suppressed and the type section retained as the type of the Sannoisian facies. Keywords
