Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy

Abstract
Four young adult male patients had clinical and fluorescein angiographic findings of acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy. All four had acute partial loss of central vision that was associated with multifocal yellowish-white lesions in the deep retina. Three had circumscribed lesions that were either healed or in the healing stage, as evidenced by pigment clumping. Visual acuity recovered to normal or almost normal in all in spite of gross derangement of the pigment epithelium. The presence of unequivocal anterior uveitis with keratic precipitates and a Koeppe nodule in one patient and intravitreal cellular reaction in two others represent newly observed variations of this disease. The eye findings in two patients occurred after an influenza-like illness.
