Abstract
To the Editor: One obvious difficulty with the study of Gonnella and Veloski (February 4 issue) is their choice of graduates of Jefferson Medical College as a sample frame.* The importance of using a representative sample should outweigh the convenience of a readily available data base in the design of a study that addresses a fundamental issue of national interest. Another weakness is the authors' inadequate attempt to control for "characteristics of graduates" by simply adjusting for performance on Part II of the National Board Examinations.
