Abstract
Development of commercial 2.9% silicon‐iron with superior (110) [001] texture has permitted attainment of lower core loss than for conventional grain‐oriented materials at 17 kG induction. Core losses of regular 3.15% silicon‐iron and high‐permeability 2.9% silicon‐iron specimens are compared at inductions ranging from 15 to 19 kG. Effects of texture and grain size increase when the induction exceeds 17 kG. Thickness tends to have a constant effect in the range of 9 to 14 mils. Effects of tension‐including coatings are described. Removal of coatings produces a large decrease in loss at high inductions but increases loss at low inductions. Keywords
