Calculation of the heavy-quark potential at large separation on a hypercube parallel computer

Abstract
The static qq¯ potential is measured on 243×10, 243×12, 123×24, and 163×24 lattices at β=6.0 with high statistics. Using Wilson line operator-operator correlations, we find σΛL77 and α0.58. This new result compares favorably with that obtained from charmonium experimental data, but is significantly different from many previous lattice calculations. Our calculations use a hypercube parallel computer which in its full configuration performs at 0.6 gigaflops on this application.
