Abstract
From patients with symptoms of enterocolitis, 458 stools were cultured for staphylococci. The series included 5 patients with pseudomembranous enterocolitis. From apparently normal persons, 61 stools were also cultured for staphylococci. Of the stools cultured, 14% of the 458 stools were found to contain coagulase-positive Staphylo-coccus aureus. One stool of the control series contained this organism. Sensitivity studies were performed on all isolated strains of staphylococci. Fourteen strains were phage typed. Keywords
