Abstract
Some 56 different species including invertebrates and fish have been recorded in the Cavendish Dock. Zooplankton was the main object of this investigation. Specific composition and the occurrence of particular species in two successive annual cycles and their dynamics is given. The analysis of benthonic forms endeavours to show the most important populations of settled and mobile species. The changes of the specific composition of the dock fauna and its possible causes are discussed. The specific composition of the fish population in Cavendish Dock shows their freshwater, marine and brackish water origin. The rate of growth of brown trout introduced into the dock shows its suitability for fish keeping. Experiments on circulation through the condensers of some invertebrates and fish in warm and chlorinated water, and observations on the the zooplankton, show no effect of power station operation on the species mentioned.
