New Records of fungous diseases on plants in New Zealand, 1962–64

Abstract
The following fungi are recorded in New Zealand for the first time: Elsinoe parthenocissi Jenkins and Bitancourt on Parthenocissus tricuspidata (Sieb, and Zucc.) Planch (Virginia creeper), Venturia circinans (Fr.) Sacc. on Geranium molle L. (crane’s-bill); V. enteleae n. sp. on Entelea arborescens R. Br.; Griphosphaeria corticola (Fckl.) Hoehnel on Rosa sp., on Rosa rubiginosa L. (sweet briar), on R. idaeus L. (raspberry); Cryptosporella viticola Shear on Vitis vinifera L. (grape); Sclerotinia minor Jagger on Lactuca sativa L. (lettuce), and on Lotus sp., on Plantago lanceolata L., on Lycopersicon esculentum Mill, (tomato); Pyrenchaeta terrestris (Hansen) Gorenz, Walker, and Larsen on Allium cepa L. (onion); Colletotrichium trifolii Bain and Essary on Medicago sativa L. (lucerne); Botrytis byssoidea J. C. Walker on onion; Cercospora althaeina Sacc. on Modiola caroliniana D. Don.; C. eupatorii Peck on Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng; C. haloragi n. sp. on Haloragis erecta (Banks ex Murr.) Eichl.; C. odontoglossi Prilleux and Delacroix on Odontoglossum sp.; and Fusarium redolens Wollenw. on Asparagus officinalis L. var. altilis L. (asparagus). New host records include Peronospora sparsa Berk, on Rosa sp. cult; Erysiphe cichoracearum DC. on Begonia rex-cultorum Bailey (rex begonia), on B. tuberhybrida Voss (tuberous begonia), on Kalanchoe sp., on Papaver somniferum L., on Saintpaulia ionantha Wendl. (African violet), on Salvia officinalis L. (sage), and on Zinnia elegans Jacq.; Erysiphe polygoni DC. on Phaseolus coccineus L. (scarlet runner bean), on P. vulgaris L. (string beans ‘Mangere pole’), and on Erica sp.; Placosoma nothopanacis Syd. on Neopanax simplex (Forst, f.) Allan var. sinclairii (Hook, f.) Allan, and on Neopanax arboreum (Murr.) Allan; Glomerella cingulata (Stonem.) Spauld. and Schrenk as a leaf spot on Anthurium sp. and on Cattleya sp., as a fruit rot on Fragaria sp. cult, (strawberry), on Prunus cerasifera Ehrh. (cherry plum), and on P. persica Batsch (peach); Fusicladium carpophilum (Theum.) Oudem. on fruit and leaves of Prunus cerasifera, on fruits of Prunus mume Sieb, and Zucc. (Japanese apricot) ‘The Geisha,’ and on P. salicina Lindl. (Japanese plum); Fabraea maculata (Lev.) Atk. on leaves of Mespilus germanica L. (medlar) and on leaves of Photinia glabra Maxim.; Corticium rolfsii (Sacc.) Curzi on rootstock of Malus sylvestris Mill, (apple), on bulbs of Allium sativum L. (garlic), and on stems of Phlox paniculata L. (perennial phlox); Pellicularia filamentosa (Pat.) Rogers on Dianthus caryophyllus L. (border carnation), on stems of Lilium auratium Lindl.; and Botrytis allii Munn. on garlic. The ascogenous stage of Elsinoe rosarum Jenkins and Bitancourt is recorded for the first time in New Zealand.Keywords
