Abstract
The occurrence of urease/urea amidolyase (UAL-ase) and glycollate oxidase/glycollate dehydrogenase among green algae is surveyed. Although there are some anomalies, three major groups of green algae can be distinguished with (i) urease/glycollate oxidase, (ii) UAL-ase/glycollate dehydrogenase and (iii) urease/glycollate dehydrogenase. These groups correspond, respectively, to the Charophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Ulvaphyceae as defined by Stewart & Mattox (1978).This publication has 25 references indexed in Scilit:
