Internal tilting-mode stability of a slightly non-spherical spheromak

Abstract

Fixed-boundary tilting- mode stability is analysed for a spheromak with an arbitrarily shaped cross-section. A prolate spheromak can be stabilized against the tilting mode by adding a conducting shell of triangular or trapezoidal half-cross-section.
