Abstract
After nurses in a long term care setting described behaviors of patients at risk for wandering, wanderers (n = 59) and nonwanderers (n = 41) were rated on these behaviors by the nurses. Factor analyses of ratings produced three independent factors of which two differentiated known wanderers from those who had not previously wandered: cognitive deficits and hyperactivity. The dimensions in turn were associated with measures of patient risk of self harm. Keywords
