Abstract
Since Chiari, in 1884, described the first case of intracranial accumulation of air, or so-called intracranial pneumatocele, several observations of it have béen published in the literature, especially during and since the Great War. At first the literature merely described sporadic cases. The first considerable works were written by Schloffer 1923 and Dandy 1926. They presented 20 and 28 cases respectively. In 1929 Huizinga-Keijser and 1931 Skoog increased this number to more than 30. In the following year a bibliography by Worm s-Didiée and Grum-b a c h appeared, in which the number of cases of pneumatocele with varying etiologies had increased to 72. In 1933 Keschner and Lander shortly speaks about 95 cases. Since that time sporadic cases have béen published by Lippens, Fribourg-Blanc, Lasalles, Germain and Engelhard t.
