Abstract
Purified ovine prolactin was injected with Freund''s adjuvant into rabbits. As little as 0.1 mg of prolactin induced antibody formation. The specificity of the antibody was evaluated with the hemagglutination technic. While as little as 0.026 [mu]g of the original antigen could be detected by the inhibition of hemagglutination, much larger quantities of other pituitary hormones either failed to inhibit the reaction at all, or did so only to the extent expected from their known contamination with pro-lactin. Human serum albumin and human immune globulin also failed to cross-react in the hemagglutination system. These results suggest that immuno-assay may be employed as a sensitive and relatively specific means of measuring prolactin. Keywords
