Abstract
A new, general and convenient technique is presented for determining the burgers vectors of (DSC) grain boundary dislocations and it is applied to hexagonal lattices. A general rotation between two hexagonal lattices may be expressed as a disorientation by a suitable reindexing of the two lattices, and it is shown how the disorientation giving rise to any desired possible value of Σ and any rational value of (c/a)2 may be determined. The results are given for several interesting values and it is seen that the number of possible values of Σ is similar to that for the cubic case. A simple assessment is made of the possibilities of ordered structures within hexagonal metal grain boundaries. The unit cell of the Bravais lattice is shown to provide a convenient basis of the coordinate system in every caseKeywords
