Abstract
In pregnant rabbits, the intravenous administration of Fe-saccharate did not cause an increase of fetal Fe unless given during the 2d trimester of gestation; and then the increase was dependent upon dosage. Results indicate that iron saccharate is transmitted rapidly to the fetus through the placenta and is converted by the fetus into physiological Fe compounds. It was demonstrated that administered Fe is stored in the adult animal''s liver and spleen as hemosidesin and almost exclusively in the fetal liver as ferritin. Ferritin appears before hemosidesin in fetal liver. Keywords
