Abstract
An analogy between the effects of low-energy-ion and fast-neutron bombardments on the garnet structure is established from the changes observed in the magnetic properties (magnetization, Curie temperature) and crystalline properties (lattice parameter, amorphization) of bombarded garnets. The nature of the induced damage is examined by assuming a transformation of ions into ions in tetrahedral sites.
