Report on Hematology Photomicrograph Transparencies 1965–1969

Abstract
The 5-year experience with the 35 mm. photomicrograph transparencies used for hematologic identification in the College of American Pathologist’s Laboratory Surveys has been challenging and informative but at the same time somewhat frustrating. The net results have been productive in: (1) allowing individual participants to identify their needs for continuing education in morphologic hematology; (2) verifying interlaboratory variation; (3) demonstrating existing problems in nomenclature; and (4) pinpointing weaknesses and problems in field selection, preparation, and quality of slides for identification. This portion of the survey, utilizing photomicrograph transparencies, can be improved, should be continued, and hopefully will be accepted and utilized by the participants.
