Abstract
Fundamental properties of the family of rare earth tantalate phosphors are reviewed, including crystal structure, morphology, density and luminescence. Ultraviolet emitting YTa0A becomes a good choice for commercial applications, based on low print-through with double emulsion films, high DQE and high sharpness to speed ratio. Speed, DQE and MTF data for Quanta Detail and Quanta Fast Detail screens made from YTaO4 are presented.© (1985) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
