Abstract
Certain properties of mirror symmetric magnet deflection systems are derived. By suitable choice of parameters, such as the radii, angles of deflection, angles of incidence, and component separations, a magnet system may be designed which, to first order, is achromatic, nondispersive, and has high resolving power. The resulting constraints are given in terms of the matrix elements of the first half of the deflection system.
