INTERNATIONAL COMPARISONS OF THE CANADIAN PRIMARY RADIUM STANDARD

Abstract
The content in milligrams of radium element of the Canadian primary radium standard was measured relative to the certified weight of a primary standard of the United States by an ionization method. The problem of correcting for differences in the attenuation of the gamma radiation in the body of each source is important, since the standards differ greatly in shape; a method of making this correction is described. Other intercomparisons involving the Canadian standard are discussed, and a mean value for the content of the standard is derived from these comparisons. The agreement between this and the certified value is satisfactory.
