Abstract
We have employed balloon catheters to establish hemostasis in two patients with arterial hemorrhage caused by pelvic trauma. The catheters were introduced percutaneously under fluoroscopic guidance with a standard catheter-guidewire system. Within 24 hours, the bleeding had ceased in both patients. No sequelae associated with the therapy developed. Alternative therapy for these patients is surgical arterial ligation or clot embolization. Both of these approaches have inherent hazards that are obviated by balloon obstruction. (JAMA230:573-575, 1974)Keywords
