Abstract
The occurrences (birth prevalences) of different types of isolated and multiple orofacial clefts are known in Hungary. The empiric risk figures in the first-degree relatives of probands with cleft lip +/- cleft palate, cleft palate, Robin sequence and multiple congenital abnormalities including orofacial clefts as component defects were also determined. Finally the recent controversial data concerning the primary prevention of isolated orofacial clefts by periconceptional folic acid-containing multivitamins are summarized. Keywords
