Abstract
Skin, like other tissues of the body, contains nucleic acids conjugated with proteins in the living cells. In general, there is a direct relationship between nucleic acid content and metabolic activity of the various layers of the skin, the more active layers having the greater content. This is comparable to the pattern in other tissues. Either cell proliferation or a loss of structural integrity of the skin layers may cause a change in nucleic acid content. Keywords
