Abstract
Thirty-nine thiosemicarbazones of aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic, and heteroaromatic aldehvdes and ketones were tested as oral chemosterilants of adult Cochliomyia hominivorax (Coquercl) less than 24 hours old. When the flies were treated daily for 5 days, isoquinaldaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, picolinaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, and pyrazinecarboxalclehyde thiosemicarbazone, all thiosemicarbazones of heteroaromatic aldehydes, completely sterilized the flies. However, when treatment with these 3 materials was limited to 1 day, fertility was reduced but not inhibited. Keywords
