Abstract
The transient behaviour of light transmission and Faraday rotation in magnetic fluids in a pulsed magnetic field have been studied. The results show that the rise time for the transmission and Faraday rotation are about 120 µs and 160 µs, respectively, while the corresponding relaxation times are 180 µs and 240 µs. These long rise and relaxation times suggest that chain formation plays an important role in the transmission and Faraday rotation.
