Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 63-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of dyspnea.He was well until 26 months earlier, when weakness developed. He was referred to this hospital, where physical examination was negative. The hematocrit was 30.6 per cent; the white-cell count was 600, with 28 per cent neutrophils, 12 per cent band forms, 44 per cent lymphocytes, and 16 per cent monocytes; the platelet count was 122,000. An electrocardiogram and x-ray films of the chest were normal. Microscopical examination of a needle-aspirated specimen of bone marrow revealed acute myelogenous leukemia.
