Abstract
Growing kittens were fed high protein (50.9%) diets derived largely from animal sources, and these diets were supplemented with procaine penicillin (30 mg/kg of ration) sodium penicillin G (18.2 mg/kg) and Aureomycin HC1 (30 mg/kg). All antibiotic supplemented diets supported increased weight gains over those on the un-supplemented control ration. Mean weight gains/day on the control diet were 9.4 g, but those for the 3 antibiotic treatments averaged 18.4 g. Increased food intake, increased efficiency of conversion and greater freedom from infection were noted among the antibiotic-fed animals. Keywords
