Family Operational Co-factors in the Epidemiology of Childhood Lead Poisoning

Abstract
A large-scale data base was derived from the New Haven Connecticut (USA) Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Program. A subset of 918 children was examined to explore associations of blood Pb levels in these children and 4 family operational factors. Elevated Pb in the children was positively associated with larger numbers of children under 6 yr in the family, fewer parents at home, fewer parents employed and lack of day care. Additional environment, demographics and socioeconomic factors in childhood Pb poisoning and its control are under study.
