Abstract
The diffraction of electrons from the surface of a crystal is discussed using a matrix formulation of multiple scattering theory. Expressions are derived for the intensity of diffracted beams from a surface with an impurity superstructure and with a small group of impurity atoms on the surface. The behaviour of the expressions is qualitatively discussed. Keywords
