Some Effects of 2-Deaminopteroylglutamic Acid upon Bacterial Growth

Abstract
An analogue of pteroyl-glutamic acid, 2-deaminopteroylglutamic acid, did not stimulate growth of Streptococcus faecalis R and Lactobacillus casei. When pteroic acid or pteroylglutamic acid is present as a source of folic acid, 2-deaminopteroylglutamic acid is an effective inhibitor. If leucovorin or rhizopterin is used as the folic acid source, this inhibition is much less marked. When L. casei is grown on a medium containing thymine and a purine, the subopt. growth obtained can be stimulated by 2-deaminopteroylglutamic acid.
