Abstract
A vertical wind tunnel is described. Windspeed can be changed rapidly and smoothly from full updraft to full downdraft. The working section (flight chamber) is used to study insects in free flight. Their rate of climb or dive (or fall) is matched by the operator changing the downdraft or updraft speeds to keep the insect in the centre of the chamber. Keywords
