Abstract
The one-free parameter formula for excitation energies of ground-state bands of even deformed nuclei provided by the rotational limit of Moshinsky's (1981) hybrid model has been used in a multi-nucleus calculation capable of describing quantitatively 57 nuclei in the actinide and rare-earth regions in terms of only three parameters. The calculation takes advantage of the systematic behaviour of the single free parameter as a function of the valence-pair number. The gradual increase of the moment of inertia with angular momentum is well accounted for. Multiplets of nuclei showing similar behaviour are identified and are related to F-spin multiplets.
