POLYCYTHEMIA AND HYDRONEPHROSIS

Abstract
A case is reported of polycythemia associated with unilateral hydronephrosis in which surgical removal of the diseased kidney resulted in correction of the polycythemia up to the time of last examination 1 year postoperative. Blood obtained from the vicinity of the left renal vein prior to surgery was studied for erythropoetin out none was detected. There is increasing evidence to demand a urologic evaluation in patients with unexplained polycythemia.
