Abstract
N,N-Diphenylchlorophenylmethyleniminium chloride reacts smoothly with a variety of alcohols in the presence of triethylamine to afford the corresponding alkyl chlorides in high yields. Replacement of a hydroxyl group at an asymmetric carbon atom with chlorine proceeds with complete inversion. Keywords
