Abstract
Up to this time eighteen cases of coccidioidal granuloma have been reported and traced to California, the seventeenth and eighteenth being reported by Brown1of San Francisco, with review of the literature. The first case in California was discovered by Rixford2of San Francisco, and later described in conjunction with Gilchrist3of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical School. Afterward Ophüls4of San Francisco described the fungus with certain morphology and characteristics, giving the name ofOidium coccidioides, with report of thirteen cases, differentiating the fungus from the closely relatedBlastomyces coccidioidesof which much has been written, the latest article being by Hektoen5of Chicago. The mold appears to be of animal origin, though not proved, with occasional infection in man.
