Abstract
The degree of polarization of a target ion excited by (inner-shell) photoionization is shown to depend on only two parameters in Dill's angular-momentum-transfer formalism. The measured alignment of is corrected for unresolved hyperfine structure, showing that anisotropic electron-ion interactions are substantially stronger than previously thought.
