Abstract
In practical quantum key distribution, weak coherent state is often used and the channel transmission rate can be very small therefore the protocol could be totally insecure under the photon-number-splitting attack. We propose an efficient method to verify the upper bound of the fraction of tagged pulses (multi-photon counting rate) with whatever type of Eve's action. Our verified upper bound is almost equal to the real value in the asympotic case. In typically practical set-ups, our method can also verify a tight upper bound which is only a few percent larger than the real value, with a probability exponentially close to 0 that the verified bound is violated.
