Age Changes in the Bones, Blood Pressure, and Diseases of Rats in Parabiosis

Abstract
Parabiosis was accomplished between pairs of rats of which one member had been retarded in growth on a diet adequate in every way except for reduced calorie content. Life span of retarded rats was not shortened by the parabiosis. Pair weight divided by 2 was not as great as comparable nonparabiosed rat weight. Older rats'' humeri were as dense as those of the younger mate. Blood pressure fluctuated irregularly, even under anesthesia. An adrenergic blocking agent abolished the fluctuation. Periarteritis appeared earlier than in nonparabiosed rats. Some hydronephrosis was seen.
