The effects of ether and a barbiturate on water regulation in the rat.

Abstract
Male albino rats maintained on a 23 1/2-hour water deprivation were administered small doses of ether by inhalation or Dial subcutaneously or by suitable controls for these drugs. They were then allowed 1/2-hour drinking periods. Ether was found to depress drinking and Dial was found to enhance drinking. Diuresis tests of dehydrated and hydrated animals under these experimental conditions showed no differential diuretic effect on the dosage levels of ether or Dial administered.
