Abstract
A patient with disseminated S. stercoralis was evaluated to elucidate host factors that may have led to the development of this infection. The patient had oat cell carcinoma with hypercortisolism produced by tumor ACTH. His serum contained a potent inhibitor of lymphocyte blastogenesis. This patient''s high level of endogenous cortisol may have impaired lymphocyte function and thereby facilitated infection with S. stercoralis.
