Abstract
A model is described for calculating the net current resulting from a 45-kA beam of 3-MeV electrons propagating into neutral nitrogen gas. The model is unique in that it includes the detailed atomic collision processes which determine the return current, and one is able to predict radial, as well as temporal, variations. The results are compared with experiment. Keywords
