Abstract
Analytical data are presented for the gum exudates from Sterculia urens (2 specimens), Sterculia villosa (2 specimens), Sterculia setigera (4 specimens), and a commercial sample of gum karaya used recently in toxicological studies. The exudates from these Sterculia spp. are very similar in composition and physico-chemical properties; some data of significance in toxicological studies are presented. There is considerable scope for the development of Sterculia setigera as a tree crop in Africa. Keywords
