Abstract
The absorption and fluorescence emission spectra of solutions of the chelate europium benzoylacetonate (EuB), the fluorescence decay times of these solutions, and the fluorescence emission spectrum of the solid chelate are described in detail. From this information an energy‐level structure for the lower states of the ground multiplet is obtained for the solid and for the solutions and the room temperature radiative lifetime of the europium fluorescence in solutions of the chelate has been determined. The temperature dependence of the intensity and lifetimes of the fluorescence reveals that the efficiency of the intramolecular energy transfer must decrease as the temperature increases. Keywords
