Abstract
A new theory describing the focusing of channelled ion trajectories in the transverse plane is presented which rests on the energy dependence of the angle of scattering by a single row. Conditions are identified in which trajectories are focused in the lattice which may lead to strong scattering and dechannelling effects. Results of this analytical theory are compared with computer simulations by Barrett and by Pabst. Keywords
