Abstract
This paper describes the procedure adopted and some of the results obtained in experiments designed to investigate the possibility of using radioactive tracer fibres to study the mechanism of carding. A small-scale card, with stationary flats, was used and, in the experiments described, either one or two flats were employed. Summarized results of observations of the passage through this card of more than 600 fibres are given and their interpretation is discussed. An assessment is made of the value of the radioactive tracer technique for the investigation of carding behaviour. Keywords
