Abstract
To the Editor: It has been reported that nutmeg oil relieves diarrhea induced by prostaglandins1 , 2 and that it could interfere with prostaglandin biosynthesis.3 , 4 We have studied the activity of nutmeg oil and its main components on platelet aggregation and the conversion of [14C] arachidonic acid by washed platelets, according to the methods described by Laekeman et al.5 The arachidonic acid (1x10–4 g per milliliter)-induced aggregation was inhibited by the volatile oil from three different batches (Liebig, Singapore, or Universal Flavour oil), and their IC50 values varied from 1.3X10–5 to 1.6X10–5 g per milliliter (n ≥ 6 determinations lor . . .Keywords
