Effect of Cortisone on Treatment of Tetanus with Antitoxin

Abstract
The therapeutic effect of very large doses of antitoxin given to mice inoculated with tetanus toxin is markedly reduced by cortisone, when both agents are given 24 hours after the injection of toxin. Cortisone also appears to increase the activity of tetanus toxin. Results obtained suggest strongly that the use of cortisone in addition to antitoxin for treatment of human tetanus may produce a deleterious effect.
